MPPOA offers financial assistance to members that may be applied to registration fees for MPPOA or NIGP-sponsored events including educational forums, certification testing and certification fees. The annual budget for scholarships, and the amount available for individual awards is set annually by the board of directors and may vary from year to year.
Scholarship applicants must be paid and active members in good standing of MPPOA for at least one year prior and in the current year to receive a scholarship award. Merit as well as financial need will be considered in the scholarship award.
Only one scholarship per individual per year can be awarded. A maximum of two (2) scholarships is awarded in any given calendar year to members employed by the same agency. A single scholarship may not exceed ($500.00) five hundred dollars. Scholarships are not transferable to another person.
Board members are not eligible for a scholarship for the duration of their term in office. Consideration for the president to attend the MPPOA or NIGP annual forum may be approved by a board of directors' vote when the president's agency has insufficient funds to cover fees.
Scholarships will be paid directly to the sponsor of the event. When applying, include on the registration form or application instructions for how the check should be issued and the mailing address for payment.
Applicants are required to submit a complete application package including summary of contributions/activities associated with MPPOA. Failure to submit a complete application package will disqualify the applicant.
All applications will be approved by the MPPOA Board of Directors.

About The Jack Standley Memorial Scholarship
Jack Standley, a teacher and leader in both private and public procurement, contributed to the development of the Michigan Public Purchasing Officers Association scholarship program. Jack was one of our first members to earn a CPPO certification, was a Klang Award recipient, and served as president of MPPOA, was a conference presenter, contributed to The Spanner with articles and was the "official" photographer and MPPOA historian.
In 1999, the MPPOA Board of Directors approved to name the scholarship program in honor of the late Jack Standley. The scholarship program is primarily funded from the Annual MPPOA Golf Outing. Additional funding may be provided by other sources as approved by the Board of Directors.
